Due to long term unemployment, we are trying to find information on financial alternatives when one cannot keep up with monthl paymnents. Is there a government publication that outlines what bankruptcy is and it’s implications, as well as possible alternatives? There is a lot of good information on your site, but I’m not finding a general overview in order to make comparisons. Also, many of your Q&A are from those who have been through this before and are already aquainted with the process. I’m clueless in the process & definitions - where can I go for free information?

The government produces a publication called Dealing with Debt: A Consumers Guide that will provide most of the information you are after. This is well written and gives an excellent overview of consumer proposals and bankruptcies, the only downside is that it is short on details concerning Orderly Payment of Debt and because it is written for the country as a whole isn’t specific about the provincial exemptions. I also have a number of materials that I could provide. If this is something that you would be interested in please if you are interested in these you can contact me through this link.
