Hello,

Thanks for all the work you guys put into this service, it is greatly appreciated. Now for my queiston. I am in major debt and need to go bankrupt. My question is how will this effect my husband? He he makes the roughly 75% of the income in our house, is not listed on any of the cards and we rent don`t own.

Thanks again!

From the sounds of it a bankruptcy will have a very limited impact on your spouse. The first thing he will have to be involved in is keeping reciepts. One of your duties is to complete monthly income and expense statments as a houhold. So to do this you need all the recipets from all purchases in the month to be tracked.

The second issue may have to do with any joint debt as your filing a bankruptcy can’t release him from any debts that he has signed on. Other than this there really isn’t much that your spouse will have to worry about. Now his income may indirectly impact your cost of a bankrutpcy, but as the calculation is based on your percentage of the household income the impact will likely be marginal.

For more information I would suggest you contact a local trustee and would recommend bringing your husband with you just so he will be able to understand the process you will be undergoing, but so that he will feel more comfortable about the process and it’s impact on him.
