Well I have decided I am going to have to file bankruptcy shortly. I live in Edmonton, I owe way to much money but I am expecting a tax refund. I was wondering if wait until I get my refund (will be about $4000), use it to visit my family back in halifax, and then file for bankruptcy a month latter.

On top of that, I also make a fair amount of money, but my job is very stressful. If I quit before I apply for bankruptcy what will happen? Will I still be eligible for bankruptcy?

First of all the tax refund. This money must be paid into your trustee. Any funds you recieve other than your normal funds you need to live on (i.e. tax refunds etc) should be used for the benefit of your creditors. Failure to use them this way will cause you difficulties when it comes to discharge time.

As for you deciding whether or not to continue working where you are at or not, this is a personal decision and it is really outside the scope of a bankruptcy. Regardless of where you work, or what you make you will still be eligible to file a bankruptcy.
