I have recently married. Before I met my husband I had gotten myself into about $70000 in debt. I am unable to pay this back and am considering filing a consumer proposal or for bankruptcy. My husband was in no way involved with the debt (he didn`t even know me when it happened!) does he have to declare his income when I am listing my household income? We both keep seperate accounts and split our expenses. I would like to deal with my debt but I want to make sure that it doesn`t impact my husband.

Yes, your spouse’s income needs to be declared. Although, just because his information is listed the bankruptcy or proposal will not have any impact on your spouse. They will not sign anything, they will not be responsible for your bankruptcy or proposal, the only reason their information is necessary is because the cost of a bankruptcy is based on your percentage of the household income.
