impact on credit

I have heard taht if you file for bankruptcy it stays on your credit bureau for 7 years. Is that correct and how does this compare to a consumer proposal?

Technically a first time bankruptcy results in an R9 that is listed with the credit bureau for 6 years from the date you are discharged.
